Abandonados / Abandoned

Los veo cuando voy por el muelle camino de mi barco. Están silenciosos, resignados, esperando el momento en que la mar se los trague de una vez. Quien sabe si no lo estarán incluso deseando, hartos de esa situación de abandono, sin nadie que los cuide, sin nadie que los eche de menos.

I'm used to see them when I'm in the way to my boat. They are quiet, resigned, waiting for the moment to be finally sucked by the sea. Whow knows if they aren't even wishing it, fed up of this neglection, having nobody to take care of them, nobody to miss them.

Todos las cosas abandonadas adquieren un aspecto triste pero, para un marino, un barco abandonado es un espectáculo verdaderamente deprimente. En la mar, el barco no es un vehículo, no es algo que meramente se usa para un fin. El barco es lo que te mantiene vivo, es el medio, es el hogar, es el refugio. Si el barco falla estás perdido.

Every abandoned things show a sad looking but, from a sailor point of view, an abandoned boat is a quite depressing spectacle. When at sea, the boat is not just a vehicle, it is not merely used to achieve a target. The boat is the guardian of your life, it is the home, the refuge. If the boat fails then you're dead.

Cuan digno es para un barco hundirse en una tormenta o descansar en tierra cuando ya es viejo. Y qué humillante es ir hundiéndose lentamente por acción del desgaste de los años de abandono, amarrado a una boya llena de escaramujo. Yo os saludo, viejos barcos agonizantes, os saludo y os deseo un rápido final.

How worthy is, for a boat, to be sinked by the storm or to rest on land when it is too old. And how humbling is to be slowly sinked by years of rain and wind, tied to a dirty buoy. I mind of you, old dying boats, I mind and wish a quick end for you.
