La regata que ganamos / The race we won

Ayer mi amigo Timothy zarpó de Durban (Sudáfrica) rumbo a Fremantle (Australia) continuando su vuelta al mundo en la regata Clipper 07. Su barco, el Uniquely Singapore, no lo está haciendo muy bien, de hecho están su posición en el cuadro general de la regata es bastante bajo. Hay gente a quien éso puede importarle aunque sé que Tim no está entre ellos. Y es que Tim y yo tenemos una marca que nos costará batir. Las fotos que acompañan este texto se tomaron el pasado Mayo, durante los días que mi amigo honró mi casa mientras atendía a sus labores en la finalización de la regata Velux 5 Oceans.
My friend Timothy left yesterdaty Durban (Southafrica) heading to Fremantle (Australia) in his way around the world as participant of Clipper Race 07. His boat, Uniquely singapore, is not doing it quite well; in fact its position in the race ranking is really low. there are people who could feel bad about it but I know Tim is not one of them. After all, Tim and me did it much worse in the past. The pics posted here were taken last May, during the days my friend honoured my home while he assisted his duties in the Velux 5 Oceans race ending.

En esos días tomamos parte en la regata local Inversa 07 a bordo del viejo Lady Chatterley. No hicimos nada a derechas: 10 minutos antes de la hora de salida estábamos coqueteando con 2 chicas guapísimas en Las Arenas, tuvimos que salir corriendo sin arranchar el barco ni tomar la más mínima medida de nada, no nos enteramos de en qué categoría participábamos, ni siquiera habíamos navegado algún día antes para practicar las maniobras juntos, y por supuesto ni siquiera encendimos la radio para escuchar las señales de presalida y salida. Huelga decir que, con semejante planteamiento llegamos a la meta los últimos de toda la flota, con mucha diferencia.
In those days we participated in the local Inverse race 07 on board of old Lady Chatterley. We did it all wrong: 10 minutes before the starting time we still were flirting with 2 nice chicks, so we had to run to come to the race on time, so we couldn't make the minimum tasks to prepare the boat, and more, we didn't even switch the radio on to be aware of the pre and starting signals. It's pretty obvious, attending to this, that we reached the end line the last ones by far.

Pero, en cierto modo, puede decirse que ganamos. Por un lado, porque fuimos los primeros (únicos en realidad) en la categoría de "tripulación a dos compuesta por tripulantes que no hablan el mismo idioma y que nacieron en continentes diferentes", y también, porque fue la primera vez que navegamos mano a mano, sentando las bases de una gran amistad.
But, in some way, I think we won instead. Let me explain: we were the first ones (the only ones, actually) in the "2 members only crew who cannot even speak the same laguage as they were born in different continents" class. And overall, it was the first time we sailed together, setting the base for a great friendship.
